Division 2 Practice Enhancement Grants - NOW OPEN

Purpose:

The purpose of the grants is to enable division 2 registered nurses who are directly or indirectly involved in clinical practice in any clinical setting, to undertake activities that will enhance nursing practice. (Enhancements may include changes to practice, policy development and the like).

The grants will be awarded to assist the development of innovative approaches to enhancing nursing practice. Each grant will be reviewed on the individual proposal. Examples of possible funding needs include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting overseas or interstate experts to visit the clinical setting in Victoria
  • Small clinically based projects by individuals or groups;
  • Mentoring in clinical practice;
  • Professional education including small modules and seminars (not leading to an award e.g. postgraduate qualifications);
  • Observational visits by the applicant; and
  • Facilitation of teaching groups.

Value:

Grants are valued at $3,000 each. The Board's preference is to fund up to 13 grants per annum. The number and amount of each grant will be at the discretion of the Nurses Board of Victoria. Funding is normally for a 12 month period.

Eligibility:

Any division two registered nurses registered with the Nurses Board of Victoria who are practicing in Victoria.

Method of selection: All applications are reviewed by the Nurses Board of Victoria.

Requirements of the fellowships:

Successful applicants will be required to prepare a written report on the activity and its effect on nursing practice. The reports is to be received by the Nurses Board of Victoria within 12 months of the allocation of the grant funds. A statement of expenditure must accompany the report. Projects of one year's duration will require a progress report at six months.

Submission opening and closing dates:

Applications open Wednesday 3rd March 2010 and close at 4pm Thursday 25th March 2010.

Ella Lowe Grant

Purpose: To conduct research, education or program evaluation in any clinical setting that has the potential to lead to better patient outcomes

Value: $50,000

Number awarded: Normally one grant each year.

Eligibility:

Available to Division 1 nurses who propose to conduct research, education or program evaluation in any clinical setting that has the potential to lead to better patient outcomes.

Grants are not available for research projects undertaken as part of studies toward an academic award. A researcher may hold no more than two NBV grants over a three-year period as Chief Investigator A.

For requests to fund part of a project with other funding being sought for the remainder of that project, the Board must be confident that if it does fund a part of the project that it is independent of all other parts and will be completed in its own right.

Availability: Research is to be carried out in Victoria.

Tenure: Usually one year but at time of application can be requested to extend to a maximum of two years.

Submission closing date:

The Ella Lowe Grant will not be offered in 2010.

 

Mona Menzies Postdoctoral Research Grant

Purpose:

To facilitate research that relates to:

  • improving health outcomes in fields such as aged care nursing, clinical nursing, community child health, complementary/alternative therapies, family care, indigenous health, mental health nursing, midwifery and primary health care.
  • changing scope of practice in nursing or midwifery.

Value: $50,000.

Number awarded: Normally one grant each year.

Eligibility:

Any nurse registered with the Nurses Board of Victoria with a doctoral qualification who proposes to conduct research relevant to the Board’s areas of research interest. Normally, this research should build on the applicant’s PhD and be within five years of the doctoral award. Applications that involve working with interstate or international researchers will be considered provided the research is related to the Victorian public and the functions of Nurses Board of Victoria.

Grants are not available for research projects undertaken as part of studies towards an academic award. The Board will not fund quality assurance or program evaluation projects. A researcher may hold no more than two NBV grants over a three-year period as Chief Investigator A.

For requests to fund part of a project with other funding being sought for the remainder of that project, the Board must be confident that if it does fund a part of the project that it is independent of all other parts and will be completed in its own right.
