Victorian Nurses Health Program (VNHP)
The Victorian Nurses Health Program is an independent support service for nurses, midwives and students of nursing experiencing health issues related to substance use or mental health problems.
They provide sensitive and compassionate screening, assessment, referrals, individual support sessions and groups for nurses seeking help to manage these health concerns.
The NBV considers it essential that nurses and midwives have support mechanisms such as this in place and has wholly funded the VNHP since its inception. Ongoing funding has been secured by the NBV for the VNHP for a three year period post-implementation to a national registration and accreditation scheme until such time consideration for provision of such a service can be given by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia. Victoria is the only State with such a program.
