Endorsement Applications - Nurse PractitionerOver recent years, the role of the nurse practitioners has become an integral part of many health services in Victoria and Australia. Nurse Practitioners are clinical and professional leaders in their chosen specialty. They work within acute health services, community based clinics and organisations and the private sector. The title of nurse practitioner (NP) is a protected title under the Health Professions Registration Act 2005. Only nurses who have successfully completed the NP endorsement process are entitled to call themselves nurse practitioners. Becoming a nurse practitioner is akin to expanding your scope of practice. The Board’s Guidelines: Scope of Nursing & Midwifery Practice for expanding scope of practice, provide a framework to develop the role within an organisation. Nurse practitioners are endorsed under a particular category. Each category has a list of drugs approved by the Minister of Health. A NP can prescribe any drugs off this list that are within their individual scope of practice. The following information sheets and other documents provide information about the NP endorsement process and role development. Please contact the NBV on accreditation@nbv.org.au if you still have questions after reviewing this information. Further Information
