Education

Approving courses is one way in which the Board fulfils its responsibility of public protection in that it provides assurance to the Board that courses prepare graduates with those competencies essential for entry to practice. Under the Health Professions Registration Act 2005,  the Nurses Board of Victoria has the power to approve courses leading to registration, recognition of qualifications and endorsement on the register.

The Board currently approves courses leading to registration in division 1 and division 2 of the register; postgraduate courses leading to recognition of qualification as a midwife, psychiatric nurse, maternal and child health nurse or immunisation nurses on the register; endorsement in medication administration on the division 2 register; and endorsement nurse practitioner.

The Board also approves re-entry courses for nurses wishing to re-register and return to practice after a period of time out of the profession.
