Research & Fellowship Grants


The Board encourages and supports nursing research and projects by awarding annual grants. These help nurses undertake research or projects related to the Board's areas of interest:
  • improving health outcomes in fields such as aged care nursing, clinical nursing, community child health, complementary/alternative therapies, family care, indigenous health, mental health nursing, midwifery and primary health care; and
  • the changing scope of practice in nursing or midwifery.

Research Grants

Mona Menzies Postdoctoral Research Grant ($50,000) - NOW OPEN

In recognition of an outstanding contribution to nursing in Victoria the Nurses Board of Victoria named its Post Doctoral research grant in 1998 after Miss Mona Menzies AM. 

During the early eighties when Mona Menzies was the Chief Nursing Officer of the previous Victorian Nursing Council research grants were established to support registered nurses in Victoria.  This was a significant event for the nursing profession as it provided an opportunity for nurses to develop research skills through the awarding of seeding grants. 

This initiative has expanded in to four different research grants funded by the Nurses Board of Victoria that support registered nurses of Victoria to conduct nursing research to improve patient outcomes today.

 

Major Research Grants ($20,000) - NOW OPEN

Two major research grants are offered annually by the Nurses Board of Victoria each year to support and encourage nursing research.

 

Applications are assessed against the following criteria.
Please note that these grants are not available for research projects undertaken as part of studies towards an academic award.

Fellowship Grants

Marjory Taylor Fellowship - NOW OPEN

The Marjory Taylor Foundation was established in 1981 to mark Ms Taylor's retirement from The Geelong Hospital where she held the title of Matron and then Director of Nursing for twenty-five years (from 1956 to 1981). Ms Taylor was awarded the Order of Australia for her services to nursing.

In 2002, the Nurses Board of Victoria approved a request to manage the Foundation and in doing so intends to continue to honour Miss Marjory Taylor by awarding an annual Fellowship of $3,000 which is available to division 1 registered nurses living and working in the Barwon region who wish to undertake education to advance their knowledge and skills in their particular field, or undertake research relating to nursing. Ms Taylor passed away in 2006 and her contribution to nursing will continue to be honoured by the NBV.

Applications open on Tuesday 1st July and close on Friday 26th September 2008.
