Professional Conduct

To maintain the highest standards of patient care, the Board reviews all complaints about the professional conduct or health of a registered nurse.

The Board takes any complaint very seriously, even though they represent only 0.2% of the profession.

The Professional Boundaries Guidelines for Registered Nurses in Victoria provides guidance on the appropriate professional relationship between a patient and nurse. A breach of professional boundary guidelines may constitute unprofessional conduct. The guidelines are available here.

The Nurses Board of Victoria is currently in the process of updating our website, policies and procedures to comply with the Health Professions Registration Act 2005. Please contact the Board on 03 8635 1200 if you have any queries on this matter.
