Education

Accreditation is one way in which the Board fulfils its responsibility of public protection in that it provides assurance to the Board that courses prepare graduates with those competencies essential for entry to practice. Under the Health Professions Registration Act 2005 the Nurses Board of Victoria has the power to provide accreditation of courses leading to registration, recognition of qualification and endorsement on the register.

The Board currently accredits courses leading to registration in division 1 and division 2 of the register; postgraduate courses leading to recognition of qualification as a midwife, psychiatric nurse, maternal and child health nurse or immunisation nurses on the register; endorsement in medication administration on the division 2 register; and endorsement nurse practitioner.

The Board also provides accreditation of re-entry courses return to practice programs for nurses wishing to re-register following a lapse in practice.

The Nurses Board of Victoria is currently in the process of updating our website, policies and procedures to comply with the Health Professions Registration Act 2005. Please contact the Board on 03 8635 1200 if you have any queries on this matter.
